Angela Marie Dearlove

Please tell me a little about yourself

My name Is Angela. I have six children and 2 granddaughters. I have a small business called ‘Polly Allsorts’

I created It a couple of years ago after I lost my beautiful mum Pauline just over three years ago to cancer. It still seems strange to even say It.

Where/how did you learn your craft(s)?

I have been doing all sorts of crafts over the years. My nanny used to paint and sew, as did my mum and aunties. I have done a lot of sewing, cake decorating and card making. I spent a lot of time with my mum going to craft and sewing shows. I now design my own products in the form of whimsical houses and have added some new ones and a story book that you can make up to your own design.  Making things has been my healing therapy.

How do you feel crafting has impacted your life?

Crafting has made a huge impact on my life. After my mum was taken from us. I had no focus in my life, I couldn’t see a future. I crafted all day every day, It saved me. It really is therapy for a broken heart. I feel very strongly about It, and how it can help. I have personally came a long way to where I was.

Do you do anything to pass the crafting bug on to others?

I teach a class at Wessex cancer trust centre In Bournemouth. It’s a time to lose themselves for a while. I am a great believer in It. Food for the soul, It especially has been for my own. My granddaughter Ava Rose is nearly seven, she loves crafting, and very good at It. Isla is only four months so we will give her a bit of time, although we have tried foot print painting, it was very messy, we couldn’t keep her still. I always try and encourage people to give It a try.  I will soon be starting workshops for my whimsical houses.

Is there anyone you find particularly inspirational in the crafting world?

There are so many people that inspire me, artists as well as crafters. And of course any kind of craft media. I love ‘DecoArt’ media fluids, and ‘Faber Castell gelatos’. I just love gorgeous colours.

Do you do anything to share your creations? (gifting/selling?)

I share on instagram, pinterest, my facebook page, and my new website that has now been launched. I have lots of my own creations on the gallery.

What is next on the agenda for you?

I have recently started to travel again after my own health scare, and not being able to do so for over a year. I took a trip to Abu Dhabi and went to the Sheikh Zayed Al Kabeer mosque. It was beyond inspiring and I’m planning some new products from my trip. It’s been nearly 5 months since I had open heart surgery, a scary time, and again through my recovery I just wanted to make things.

I have been a guest on ‘Hochanda’ with some new whimsical houses and products. I am also very excited to be doing my first major craft show at ‘Create it’ at the Kent showground In May, where I am doing workshops and makes and takes.
